What is GAA Rec Basketball Cheerleading?

The GAA Recreational Basketball Cheerleading program is a youth cheer program operated by the Grayson Athletic Association (also known as GAA.) The Cheerleading Basketball program is a non-competetitive cheerleading league where children are given the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of cheerleading in a positive, fun and safe environment.

How much does Basketball Cheerleading cost?

The fee for the 2016-17 season is $150. This fee includes a 4 day Cheer Camp at GHS hosted by the high school cheerleaders. Camp bow, shirt and shorts are also included. Gym rentals for practices and games are also covered under this fee.

What other expenses are associated with Basketball Cheerleading?
The uniform is not included in registration. The fee is $130 for a complete uniform this includes a bow, shell, body liner, skirt, briefs, shoes and poms. A complete uniform is required in ordered to participate during games. This fee will need to be paid on the Uniform Fitting Day. Date and Time is TBD. For the 2016-17 season any cheerleaders may purchase individual uniform pieces if new sizes are needed. 
 
There is also a $40 Spirit Fee. This fee is used for spirit supplies, end of season party, end of season gifts and other items that may be needed. 
What Age Groups are available?

Basketball Cheerleading is available to girls in kindergarten through 8th grade. GAA Basketball Cheerleading divides the athletes by grade. Two or more grades may be combined to form a squad with the decision being based upon a review of the number of registrants each year.

Does my daughter have to try out?

No. All girls will be placed on a squad regardless of their cheering experience.

When do practices / games begin?

Practices begin in November. Opening day tip-off for the basketball league is mid December. The girls will begin cheering when the basketball games begin.

How many practices / games are there?

GAA Basketball Cheerleading squads will typically have an average of 2 practices per week prior to the start of the season. After the season begins, teams will usually have one practice per week and one game per week (with games currently scheduled for Saturday.) Note that this is dependent upon the availability of the facilities, the number of teams in each league, school closings, etc.

Where are practices / games held?

Practices and games for all GAA Rec League teams are held at the gymnasiums of Grayson Cluster Elementary and Middle Schools.

Will there be a cheer off?

No. GAA Rec Basketball Cheerleading does not have a Cheer-Off.

Do you need volunteers?

ALWAYS!!! GAA and the Basketball Cheerleading Program are completely staffed by volunteers. Basketball Cheerleading in the Grayson Community will not be possible without you. If you are interested in being a Coach, Asst. Coach, Team Mom or just want to help out; please indicate this at registration. If you would like to offer help in any way, please indicate that when you register your girl.
